Introduction

Our self guided walking holiday is ideal for people keen to walk independently, who like to experience the real Spain, and prefer not to have the chore of repacking and moving on each day. Our location is also very suited to those who would like to mix walking with cultural activities. The walking experience starts the moment you step outside the main entrance and the surrounding mountains and valleys provides numerous introductory and moderate walking routes. Imagine  walking in the blissful quiet of the countryside and brushing through the rosemary, thyme and sage to release their heady perfume.

We are based in the village of Lubrin in the province of Almeria and is 2000ft up in the Sierra de los Filabres range of mountains and just 45 mins inland from Mojacar and Garrucha on the Costa del Almeria.. The village was settled by the Moors sometime after the 8th century. The Clock Tower, on the magnificent rock outcrop Castillo Arabes, was constructed in 1309. The Moors were expelled from Southern Spain in 1452 by the Catholic King Ferdinand and in 1587 Lubrin was settled by Marqués del Carpio and later by  the  Duques de Berwik y Alba  with  families originating from  other  provinces. The main agricultural crops were cereal and olives and originally there were  three almanzaras (olive presses)  and six molinos (flour mills).

The passage of 5 centuries has lead to the decline in the traditional industries of agriculture and animal husbandry and the Mayor, along with the support of the Provincial and Regional Governments is committed to the introduction of tourism as a replacement industry. Work has started on identifying and marking the old donkey trails that criss cross the almond and olive groves in the Sierra de los Filabres around Lubrin.

The accommodation  is a one bedroom self catering apartment on the lower ground floor of an Andalucian Cortijo (Farmhouse) ideally located to provide peace and tranquillity yet within walking distance of the village. The apartment is spacious and full of character and are ideally suited for 2 persons. Each apartment has 2 private terraces with views over the surrounding mountains and valleys. There are adjoining apartments and so ideal for 2 couples that enjoy each others company but would prefer to have their own independent accommodation.
